Description

Medical Consortium of Africa aims to develop a data-intensive platform utilizing Earth observation (EO) data to address critical health threats in Africa: malaria and non-communicable diseases.

The platform will provide real-time detection of water-borne pathogen transmission, surveillance of outbreaks, and model NCD trajectories based on environmental factors. This will inform public health policies with real-time data-driven evidence, helping ministries of health design effective interventions and monitor disease patterns.

Growth Objectives

To build a data-intensive platform at a commercial level that acts as a machine surveillance system for malaria and NCDs, informing public health policies using EO data. The project also aims to utilize EO data capabilities in actual surveillance programs in South Africa and the rest of Africa.

Differentiation/Value Proposition

The platform is described as a real-time interactive data system combining human data surveillance and EO data to provide precise health informatics on NCD and Malaria. The applicant states there is currently no such platform in the market used for surveillance purposes within Africa. The platform will be refined for every area, state/province as per client’s needs, offering a detailed approach for districts to plan their surveillance programs.

Medical Consortium of Africa is in the prototype development and validation phase:

  • Targeting TRL 7 through system design, piloting, and stakeholder testing.
  • Milestone-based development with CSIR, NICD, and SANSA.
