All veterinary science students, staff and alumni, can break through new frontiers in animal health and care if their innovations are transformed from ideas into development to become commercial solutions.
TuksNovation, together with the UP Veterinary Science Faculty is excited to launch the UP Veterinary Science Open Innovation Challenge to give students a platform to take their bold ideas and turn it into new veterinary science approaches!
This is a unique platform created to encourage multi-disciplinary entrepreneurial thinking and stimulate innovation among students in veterinary science and other faculties. The challenge is open to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Students and UP staff are encouraged to collaborate across other faculties.
The winning teams will be announced at the awards ceremony that is earmarked to be held on 20 October 2022.

The programme will commence during July 2022 recess (11 July – 22 July).
The following innovation activities and events:

Bootcamp
Briefing sessions: the innovation journey: from IP to IPO
- Fundamentals of Intellectual Property protection, commercial exploitation etc.
Ideation Workshops
- Design thinking
- Business Model Canvas

Hackathon
Identification of real world thematic problem solving – specific to veterinary science

Pitches & Presentations
Pitches to a multi-disciplinary panel

RULES
Groups or individuals- at participants’ discretion.
Multi-disciplinary to encourage group formation with students from other faculties.
Student-driven where 50% of the group is from the Faculty of Veterinary Science.
UP Staff and alumni can also be involved, however students must be principal drivers. No fronting allowed.
